2014 Fast, Inexpensive, and a really good choice for Upgrading an older system. Dune 2. I work for the SFLCA, a nonprofit charitable organization that provides assistance and support to cancer patients and their family. We are an all-volunteer organization and we pinch and squeeze every penny we get until old Abe screams for mercy.
The PC we use to run our web design and multimedia app's on is a 8 year old custom build based on a Gigabyte GA-MA785G-UD3H motherboard running 8gb of 800Mhz OCZ Ram, an AMD Radeon HD 5670 with 1Gb of DDR5, and an AMD Phenom X4 9750 Quad Core Processor. The PC was great for a number of years but newer software is outrunning the capabilities of its system. To save money, we decided to see what we could save and upgrade the rest.
Is there a simple software you would recommend for the part-time seller to keep track of income and outgo? I checked earlier answers, but some of. We review 7 of the different eBay Listing Software packages on the market to help you decide which one is best for you. Posts about Ebay Programs and Software Reviews written by Dustin Jones.
To give you an idea of what we are running that causes the 9750 to nose-dive to a slow crawl at times we have and run the following software: Adobe Creative Suite 6 Master Collection; Adobe Acrobat XI Pro; Ashampoo Burning Studio 14; Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013; Microsoft Visio Professional 2013; Microsoft Visual Studio Ultimate 2013; Microsoft Expression Studio 4; Sony Vegas Pro 13; Sony ACID Pro 7; and Sony Sound Forge Pro 11. If you are doing web design and you need a redesigned graphic, with the 9750 you almost have to close down the web software before opening Adobe Photoshop or Fireworks. You don't have to, but you must be willing to a lot of time mostly waiting for your mouse clicks to catch up with what you are doing. The Gigabyte motherboard is solid and will accept AM3 processors so we decided to first upgrade the processor and then look into upgrading the ram. After looking at what we needed and a lot of research, we narrowed our choice of processors down to the AMD Phenom II X4 970 BE Quad Core Processor. To begin with, the 970's operating frequency is 3.5Ghz, and if we need a little more horsepower, is easily overclocked.
Don't see that happening but it is nice that it's available. It is only slightly slower than the AMD FX-4300 Quad Core Processor although it bests the 4300 in a number of benchmark tests. The 4300 draws only 95 watts as opposed to the 970's 125 watts but we have a huge Zalman CPU Cooler/Tower that runs 2 fans in a push-pull configuration so cooling is not an issue. Both have 8Mb in onboard cache. How's the performance you ask?
Sincerely Awesome! The 9750 crawled where the 970 screams. Um, just to check performance, just a test you know, we did load Battlefield 4, Fallout New Vegas, and Crysis 3 and ran those. Did I say AWESOME? The only limitations were caused by the graphics card. (already have a used Sapphire 3Gb HD 7950 Dual-X graphics card coming in to replace it and we've purchased 16Gb of used Mushkinn Blackline 1066Mhz) The 970 really did scream through these with the CPU running stock at 3512Ghz and never reaching 50C.

I believe if we needed it, we could overclock it to 4Ghz without it breaking a sweat. Now keep in mind this was a budget build project. We bought the 970 used for less than $80 and we feel that with proper care it should last us another 5-6 years before requiring us to retire the rig. It betters an i3 and has performance matches several of Intel's i5 models. Overall, the 970 was an excellent choice and one we don't regret making. Our recommendation: if you are running an older AM2+ or AM3 board and need or want to upgrade without going the expense of an all new system, this is the way to go. Inexpensive and makes your system run like you just put a turbo under the hood.
